Rules & Regulation

  1. Each driver must fill out an entry form. All drivers must supply their own car. ONLY ONE ENTRY PER PERSON.
  2. Each driver must be the age of 18 to run.
  3. The track reserves the right to approve or reject any entries.
  4. Only owners, drivers, mechanics, and above 16 etc. who sign the release sheet will be permitted into the pit area or on the track. Anyone else will cause the car to be disqualified.
  5. The Western Kentucky State Fair Board will not be responsible for any cars, personal property, or injuries during or after the show.
  6. All cars are to be removed from the fairgrounds one hour following the show or they will become the property of Western Kentucky State Fair.
  7. All complaints will be heard at the registration table or announcer's stand. THE HEAD JUDGE'S DECISION IS FINAL!
  8. Any driver or any person speaking for a driver using abusive language in the ring, at the announcer's table, or in the crowd area will cause the driver to be disqualified, and he or she will forfeit any prize money.
  9. Absolutely NO ALCOHOL OR DRUGS. Any fighting or arguing will cause disqualification. Anyone leaving the grandstands to assist a driver will cause the car to be disqualified.

Type of Car

Any American-Made stock, hardtop automobile, or station wagon is allowed. No trucks, convertibles, jeeps, hearses, limousines, Chrysler Imperials, sub-frames Chrysler Imperial, or suicide-door Lincolns allowed.

Preparation of Car

Have the following done BEFORE arriving at the Fairgrounds or Track:

  1. Remove all glass including windshield, side windows, rear window, and head and taillights. Rolling windows down is not permitted.
  2. Chrome molding strips and the bottom portion of the rear seats must be removed. All broken glass must be removed.
  3. Mash down or cut off any shard protruding fins or dangerous objects.
  4. Radiators must remain in their original position or taken off.
  5. Only one automotive type battery is allowed. It may be moved to any position of the car, but it must be securely fastened and covered.
  6. Both front doors and top of roof should be numbered.
  7. Cars must be swept clean and no loose junk inside.
  8. Only 5-gallon boat tank or similar tank allowed, and they must be properly secured and covered.
  9. Each driver must be signed in and inspected at the track at least one hour prior to the show, and the driver must be assigned a heat.
  10. All cars will be inspected before entering the pit area and subject to re-inspection at any time.
  11. Any sized tire can be used as long as it is round and black.
  12. Body bushings may be pulled but must have spacers the same height as body bushings. Can use 1/2" bolt through the body and washer no bigger than 3". Can do all body bushings but must have at least 1" gap between body and frames.
  13. Can use 3/4" all thread through the front core support and through hood.
  14. Can tilt front ends on Fords by cutting tab.
  15. On new model bumpers you can put square tubing in bumper 2x4 by quarter inch thick. Old style bumpers cannot be loaded and no homemade bumpers. Bumper shocks can be shoved in and welded or bumpers welded straight to frame. No metal added. Bumper must be 16-17" to bottom of bumper. Bolt on bumper brackets can be welded around the ends, but not solid on frames.
  16. On never style Fords, rear end arms may be made out of quarter inch tubing and springs can be cabled in or chained. No Leif springs on newer models.
  17. The verticals on doors can be welded solid with 2 1/2" wide x 1/8" thick metal or chained.
  18. 4-point cage consisting of a bar, pipe, or tubing across the dash down each side and behind the seat not to go more than 8" past the door post. A roll over bar can be welded to the back bar of the cage coming out of the car over top and can have two or three 1/2" bolts up through the bar through top of car. One or two windshield bars can be ran. No trunk bars.
  19. Can run transmission cooler and a plastic fan on motor.
  20. On Mercury Marquis only front horns can be cut off to same length as Ford Crown Vicks.
  21. Slider drive shafts can be run.
  22. Can tuck the back of trunk down inside the trunk. Put 3 welds with door strappings on sides, leave at least 2" gap between them. Can put 2 straps on back of trunk welded to speaker deck, and 2 straps from trunk down to bumper. Trunk can be creased in the center, but must have hole in trunk to see in. Speaker deck can be beat down but must stay in car & no reshaping of sheet metal.
  23. Suspension must have bounce and can use spacers in front ends to raise the front ends. No Solid Suspensions!
  24. Stock Ford or Stock Chevy tie rod ends may be used. Newer style Fords can use older style A-arms but no solid tie rod ends. Stock adjustment sleeve!
  25. May use short pieces of angle, 2 on each side of hood and run bolts through angle or wire the hood. 3 bolts may be welded to top of core support and run through hood to help hold hood and core support down.
  26. May use a steering knuckle.
  27. May use a universal wheel center no thicker than a quarter inch and may run valve stem protectors.
  28. No double skinned cars, do not weld seams or any other part of frame and no painted frame.
  29. Can dimple or notch the back of frame to make it go up.
  30. Any motor in any car. HUMP PLATES, ENGINE CRADLES, DISTRIBUTOR PROTECTORS, STEEL BELL HOUSING, GAS TANK PROTECTORS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED! 8 lug 14 bolt braced rear ends may run! Pinion brake can be run.
  31. No aftermarket spindles can be used.
  32. No setback motors.

Running

  1. A safety belt, helmet, and goggles are required for protection.
  2. Vehicles must have dependable and sufficient brakes at all times, and the boundaries must be observed.
  3. No alcoholic beverages or drugs on the track, in the emergency vehicle area, or in the pit area allowed.
  4. One fire will be allowed, after that the car will be disqualified.

Each derby will be composed of three individual heats, one consolation heat (no money for consolation), and one feature. The feature demolition event will be comprised of the winners of the heat races. The decision of the official will be final as to the winner of each heat. All rules will be strictly enforced.
